Pulling into a full hookup RV site for the first time can feel a little overwhelming — hoses, cables, and connections everywhere. But once you know the basics, setup takes less than 15 minutes and you're ready to relax. Here's everything you need to know about full hookup RV sites and how to get the most out of your stay.

A full hookup RV site gives you three connections at your pad:

• Water — a fresh water spigot you connect directly to your RV's city water inlet
• Electric — either 30 amp or 50 amp service (or both) to power your air conditioning, appliances, and devices
• Sewer — a drain connection so you never have to haul waste to a dump station

When all three are available at your site, you can live in your RV exactly like you would at home — running the AC, using the kitchen, taking showers — without any rationing or trips to a dump station.

This is one of the most common questions new RV owners ask.

30 amp service runs on a single 120-volt line and delivers up to 3,600 watts. It's plenty for most travel trailers and smaller motorhomes — you can run one air conditioner, the refrigerator, and a few other appliances at the same time.

50 amp service runs on two 120-volt lines and delivers up to 12,000 watts. Larger Class A motorhomes, fifth wheels with dual AC units, and rigs with residential refrigerators or washer/dryer combos typically need 50 amp.

Before connecting anything, get your RV level. Connecting water and sewer to a rig that's still shifting can stress the fittings. Use your leveling jacks or blocks, then set the parking brake.

Always connect sewer first. Attach your sewer hose to your RV's drain outlet, then connect the other end to the site's sewer inlet. Keep the sewer valve closed until you're ready to dump — leaving it open causes odors and can dry out the tank sensors.

Use a dedicated drinking-water-safe hose (white or blue, not a garden hose). Attach a water pressure regulator between the spigot and your hose — most RV water systems are rated for 40–60 PSI, and municipal water can run higher. Connect to your RV's city water inlet and turn the spigot on slowly.

Check that the pedestal breaker is off before plugging in. Connect your power cord to the correct amp outlet (30 or 50 amp), then flip the breaker on. If you're using an adapter, make sure it's rated for the amperage you're drawing.

Walk around and check every connection. A quick visual check now saves a soggy mess later.

Use a surge protector. Power quality varies at RV parks. A surge protector or EMS (Electrical Management System) protects your appliances from voltage spikes and low-voltage conditions.

Keep your black tank closed. As mentioned above, leave the black tank valve closed and only open it when the tank is at least two-thirds full. This helps waste break down properly and prevents pyramid plugs.

Conserve water pressure. Even with a pressure regulator, check your hose connections daily. A slow drip can waste a surprising amount of water over a week-long stay.

Know your amp limits. If you're on 30 amp service, be mindful of running multiple high-draw appliances at once. AC + microwave + electric water heater can trip your breaker. Stagger usage when possible.
